Notes I am trying to learn how to do machine embroidery, this is far more difficult than I realised!
My daughter is a falconer, keeps owls and volunteers at a Raptor rescue centre, I made this as a gift for her. This handbag, and this eagle, seemed to be a good project.
She likes black things, so I have used some black denim for the main fabric, the lining is from quilting cotton, with a cute animal print.
I accidentally embroidered the eagle upside down, so decided to use this embroidery as an external pocket. I lined the pocket and used 2 magnetic fasteners. The embroidery took several hours to do, as the thread kept breaking - grrr!!!
I added 2 zipped internal pockets, one concealed with a zipper facing, the other visible with some embroidery on it (a sleeping caterpillar on a flower).
I kept the strap separate, used lobster clasps to attach to loops on the bag. I made a long strap, so the bag can be worn across the body, the fact that this is detachable will easily allow a shorter strap to be used if wanted.
There are many hours of work in this bag, it looks simple but is certainly not a quick project. I ordered the pattern at 100% size, I feel it may be better a bit bigger - maybe 120-150%.
I will definitely make this again - I would like one for myself now!

Bag is stunning. I would like to try embroidery myself. I made myself a backpack from old jeans and I know there is a tremendous amount of work in them. Nice work Maria.

    Wonderful details and lovely bag.!
Love the caterpillar you put inside, is very cute when you take a peek in the bag :)
Also great job on the eagle, glad you persevere despite the thread breaking on you, ughh!
PD. Bigger size bag would show off your embroidery even more beautifully! ;)

Thank you Newenka, I hope that she will like it.
May be just a bit small, we shall see...!

Good luck with the implementation and I am curious how the bag will be.
