Notes This coat is made from a wool/mixed fibre checked fabric, where the checks form rectangles rather than squares. I had to cut it out on the cross grain to get the rectangles taller and thinner. The main sections are all interfaced (fronts with a stitch reinforced interfacing, back and sleeves with a lighter weight non-woven fusable interfacing. The body is lined with a rabbit patterned cotton, the sleeves with satin (for ease of putting on/taking off the coat). I decided not to use the hidden button placket, as the coat seemed a little plain and the large black buttons finish it off nicely.

This is very easy to construct, it is helpful that separate pattern pieces are provided for the body lining pieces.

A very adaptable style - the coat can be worn with a high neck (as in the illustration), fully buttoned up with a small collar, or just 3 buttons fastened gives a larger shawl collar.

The illustration shows the length at hip level, but the coat is longer than this, it is more at just above knee level.
