Notes I needed a coat with a hood for winter, and this fit the bill. I am very happy with it!

I made no adjustments to the pattern that I had ordered based on my measurements, although it turned out to have a lot less ease than a coat I made a month ago based on the same measurements. If I'd realised that, I've had adjusted it before I cut out my fabric. In the end I just positioned the buttons in such a way that the coat doesn't strain when it's fastened, although the overlap in front isn't what it should be. Other than that, the fit was very good.

The fabric is a wool/cashmere blend, and the lining is acetate. I used button loops instead of buttonholes, and added my own front pockets (and an internal pocket). It's hard to believe that this coat pattern doesn't come with any pockets at all - I'd be very disappointed in a winter coat with nowhere to put my hands, or my phone/keys. I drafted welt pockets and inserted them at an angle just below the waist.

I also inserted piping at the join between the facing and the lining, added a hanging loop and my label, and bagged the lining so there are no loose ends and no hand stitching required.

Thanks Maria! I am in love with the fabric and it was a joy to work with. I wish I could afford to buy more of it!

Your lining looks lovely. I agree with you that a coat needs pockets, the style you have chosen looks really well with the shape of the coat.
The back view of the coat is particularly flattering, what a nice drape on the fabric - well done!

Thank you. I'm so happy with it! I unpicked the front and made the button loops shorter, because they were coming undone by themselves. The buttons are still a bit of a nuisance to fasten or unfasten quickly, because of their shape, so I might eventually swap them for more ordinary rounded ones. Time will tell!

Oh this is a great job, you have made nice details and finish, and your pockets are perfect too. Congratulations

Nice work with the weekly pockets. Lovely detail.

Thanks! The fabric colour is called "cloud blue" - it's a blue grey! The detail photos are probably closer to reality than the outdoors ones, but maybe it does look more blue outdoors. I like it, anyway :-)

What a nice coat! I like the fitting shape which makes a better silhouette than a roomier style. Is the actual color baby blue or gray? The buttons are lovely!

Christine, what I mean is that I made two Lekala winter coats out of similar fabric, using patterns based on the same measurements, but this one is much tighter! I was not expecting it to be different so I didn't measure the pattern pieces before I cut my fabric. I'm just glad it fits me anyway, even though it is smaller than I expected :-)
