Notes | One thing that I love about the Lekala patterns is the assumption that we know what we are doing. One thing that I hate about the Lekala patterns is the assumption that we know what we are doing. Placing the pleats on this and my last Lekala pattern was not obvious. I didn't do it right so I am compensating. I am using blue chiffon overlay with a satin charmeuse (both left overs from the prom dress I make my daughter a couple of years ago) although I am considering using 2 layers of the chiffon instead. Debating if I will take a self facing approach or use use the facing as the pattern recommends. I used wonder under and some light broadcloth to make a "fusible facing" which seems to work, Maybe it will add too much bulk? This is why it takes me so long to complete my projects. I keep re-thinking my plans. I decided to proceed as initially planned. I used the facing as shown in the pattern instructions, and it worked okay although I would have used a lighter interfacing next time. I also would have made the darts shorter. I finished the seams withe a zig zag then pinking shears then cringed the seams because the fraying of this fabric was horrid. I would use French seams in the future. The sleeves are finished with a narrow zig zag then I cinged the edges which makes it nice and tidy and light. For the body I basted the chiffon overlay to the santin Charmeuse then pieced it together. I omitted the pleated deception for the underlining. That proved to be a good choice. Overall I'm happy. Not bad a bad way to use up prom dress scraps! |
