Notes | This is the second shirt I have made from this pattern in a week and it is a work of love. The first using my husbands measurements fitted well but was a little baggy, so I adjusted the pattern to get the look I wanted. This pattern is super, give it a try. I took in the shoulder in by 1 cm on each side. I also took in the back by 2 cm's by make two vertical folds in the pattern and similarly with the front 1 cm on each front piece. My husband has short arms so I shortened the sleeves by 1cm. You may find tall people need a longer sleeve. I also widened the cuffs by 1cm, this allowed the sleeve to be buttoned but not catch on a wrist watch. I prefer use an additional piece if soft white cotton instead of interfacing. This gives the collar a comfortable "hipster" lived in look. The shoulder, collar, cuffs, sleeve placket and pockets cut at 45 degrees to give a design detail. I copied the pocket and sleeve placket off a RTW shirt as I wanted an upmarket look. I also like the contrast collar stand and cuffs on RTW so again I used soft white cotton to give some contrast. All seams are double stitched and flat felled. Initially the checks at the front didn't match horizontally ( how is that possible when I cut each piece separately?) but I had a moment of inspiration and undid one shoulder piece and adjusted by 0.3 cm to get checks to align. My automatic 1960's button holer did not cope with the soft fabric and no interfacing but after some thinking I used spray starch and iron to give the fabric some crispness whilst I used my machines zigzag and a water soluble pen as an aid to make the button holes. Next time I will make some bias binding, to produce a hanging hook over the back pleat. This shirt pattern is now truly perfect. My husbands chest is the same dimension as me, you can see how my tailors dummy fits perfectly, so if you are so looking for a relaxed fit ladies shirt go ahead, just shorten the sleeves a bit. |
