Notes | The pattern itself is great. But… I wonder if the designer has tested this model. I am an advanced seamstress, and it beats me how on earth one would accomplice the darts as given in the model. The end of the darts apprehend that the darts can be folded ‘in the model’ of the dart. Noway! So I invented another approach: I did baste all darts, folded these sideways, as darts are. (As I found out later I would have saved a lot of time: baste the darts as if these were darts, then lay the pattern with the 'folded' darts on top and mark. This will save you immensely). My fabric is very stretchy, and in order to overcome most of the stretch (and have the silver lines vertically instead of horizontal) I did use the fabric horizontally. It is a very – very broad collar, a bit smaller would have been nicer. As Lekala seldom uses neck-facing, I created a facing at the front – and back. Instead of darts at the back -I chose to create a yoke and a wide pleat at the back. I will name my blouse ‘My button blouse’, as I have given it 12 buttons (1,5 cm) at the front, 6 buttons each cuff, and instead of beads (which my fabric would not have held) I chose to implement tinier buttons of the same ones at the blouse. As I am fond of wide and stiff cuffs (call it a ‘Karl Lagerfeld’ syndrome) I doubled the size of the cuffs, and did use 2 layers of stiff fusible interfacing. The front facing, collar and collar stand just one each side. As the fabric was so stretchy, I had to baste each seam twice. Most of the time consuming labor have been the darts, so think before you ink… Do I like the pattern and design? Yes, surely. Will I make this blouse again? Surely not. Do I like my blouse? Yes! Even better than I presumed whilst making it. It will be fun to wear, but -alas- a ‘once in a lifetime’ pattern… |
