Notes First of all, the pattern was fine. Problem was the chosen fabric: jacquard woven with silk. Fraying, my oh my. The print is great as it is, but as I have an apple figure, the print forms one block. To overcome that I decided to create piping around the seams. One problem solved. I intented to make the skirt as a mxi version, which I couldn’t, as the fabric expensive, and would heve had too much wasted fabric. Luckiky, as the fabric did not lend itself to ‘flare’, as being far to stiff. The dress was nearly finished, and the flare made me look lile Mary poppins jumping from a cliff with an umbralla above her head: it was all ‘balloon’shaped at the hem. So again I unpicked the seams and made it nearly straight (thus more if a rectangle, but hey, you can’t win them all). The most problems I had with the collar (guess due to the added piping which was stiff). Unpicked 5x, then making another one in the contrast fabric (stiff, but better). As the dress is sleeveless (I made a Lekala retro dress with sleeves into a pinafore) but this one I wanted sleeves. So I did use the sleeve pattern of that dress. I decide to use organza duo-tone, as it would work against any rectangular shape. Ordered 1 meter, to come to the conclusion that 1 layer of organza wasn’t enough (I have bulky upper-arms, and it was too much flesh in the see-through). So I had to order some more of the organza, and was lucky enough to buy the last 1,5 meter. The cuffs are made of the contrast fabric (taftetas duo-tone), used as well at the accompanying Lekala vintage jacket I made in the same fabrics. I did skip the bow, as the dress already had enough of ‘catch the eye’.

Was I happy with the pattern of this dress? Yes, surely yes! Would I make this dress again? Again: yes, surely yes. But I would advice anyone to make it in a stretch or a tricot fabric. Buy hey, it was my X-mas outfit, and for me I did shine in it.
