笔记 There is always something about ready-made denim skirts that doesn't work out for me. I've wanted to make one for years. I accumulated the supplies and equipment that I needed for the project over the last year or so.

Denim - from Fancy Gap Pottery and Fabric Outlet. Purchased > 1 year ago.
Thread - GÜterman on sale at Joann > 1 year ago.
Rivets - Amazon ~ 3 months ago.
Heavy Duty Singer Sewing machine - Costco ~ 2 months ago.
Buttons and zipper - Wawak ~ 6 weeks ago.

I've had my eye on this pattern for some time, and Nicole Keller's take on it was the final inspiration to use this pattern for the project. I absolutely love what she did!

What I love about the pattern:

Very little modification was required for fit.
The pockets are a bit broader so I could actually put something in them if I wanted to.
The construction was straightforward and made sense. Occasionally Lekala patterns have weird construction elements that I scrap for my own plan.

What could be better:
The back pockets sit a bit lower than I think they should. I should have been more attentive to that before I riveted the pockets, but they are fine.

The front pockets should be a little deeper in my estimation.

There should be a facing for the button band.

My modifications:
Took in about 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) from the waist. I essentially made a dart where the zipper goes by removing a wedge proportionate to the darts along the cut line. This improved the fit and the shape as well.

Embellished the pockets with mountains reminiscent of my home in the Pacific Northwest US and in honor of my current home away from home in Appalachia. After scrapping multiple versions. The pockets you see are the final product. Mountains are the epitome of happiness.

Added belt loops ( I was going to do that anyway).
Added a key pocket (thanks to Nicole Keller).

Faced the button band. bound the raw edges of the waistband facing.

Future modifications :
Raise the back pockets.
Increase the length of the front pocket "bags".
I will probably reduce the waistband exactly as I did. I'm happy with that outcome.

Other potential future options:
Make the front an actual button placket and omit the zipper.
Place a front zipper placket and /or omit the buttons.
make in both longer and shorter lengths.
Omit the slit in the back and keep the button placket open toward the bottom in the front.
Use Corduroy Fabric.

BTW these posts are for me to jog my memory for future use and to share my experience with the pattern in case it may help others know what to expect. That is one of the things I love about Lekala.

Occasionally I also ask for advice or feedback, and I appreciate those who have responded. I honor the skills and experience of others and do not offer unsolicited advice. I would ask for the same courtesy.
