Notes It still looks a bit messy as the coat is not ironed yet, and the lining still has to be attached to the seam, but as it was raining since days, had to be rapid to make pix. So, sorry. The fabric are old draperies which I got from a friend, free of charge. In my third eye I immediately saw an outfit. This coat (which to me looks a bit ‘avant garde’), an ‘English Lord’ vest and a skirt (all patterns from Lekala, which also listed at this site).
The pattern of this coat was a Russian brain braker! On the pattern were 2 collars (whilst on the drawing there is only one) one smaller than the other. It looked fantastic, but due to the thickness of the fabric I could use only one (and believe you me, God knows I have tried and tried again. All in vain!) It was so thick due to the fabric + the fact I used fusible interfacing in all collars and facing. My 60 year old Pfaff has made it to the end. What is wrong with this pattern: the upper section of the right front leads nowhere, so I had to cut it off at the end. For the back lining I made a square of the fabric instead of all lining as the coat is asymmetrical, thus combined with a shorter skirt visible. The instructions are kind of a bare minimum, such as in ‘The best baker’ contest technical challenge: ‘nr. 1: make your dough.’ The instruction was somewhat mind-boggling, as it was mentioned: sew the yokes. Problem is that all of the yokes look as if it needs to be near the breast. It isn’t! It took me 2 days to figure it out! And I started sewing from 15, am now 66, so no novice in sewing nor in patterns. For the ones who dare this project, a time saving tip: 2 of the yokes form the shoulders and upper collar at the neck (you’re welcome). I do as I always do: baste, baste, and baste. My schoolteacher always said: “To baste is to sew well” (which is true!). I have plenty of these Lekala patterns and not all are so complicated as this pattern.

Mirja Liehunen: At 'Pattern review' someone replied: "It is normal that the undercollar is a tad smaller than the upper collar, so it can "roll" nicely on the edge. But I admit that I have never seen such a tailored detail on a Lekala pattern yet. I cut the upper collar on fold, one piece, and the undercollar on biais, two opposite pieces, and reduce the undercollar to account for the turn of cloth. This can range from 2 mm to 5 for a very thick fabric." But this is not the case, as the difference is at least 15 cm, and at the pattern it states I need to cut 2 of each. As I wrote: mind-boggling.

I've always wondered about this formula. Thank you for the clarification and tips.
